Stihl and Husqvarna are the most well-known chainsaw manufacturers in the market for a long time. Brands are always competing for a place in the hearts of customers, so they regularly add new “chips” and improve their tools in every way. How different are the saws of the two companies from each other, and are they changed at all? This issue is worth a look.
Stihl chainsaws are equipped with an ElastoStart starter, which simplifies tool starting and reduces jerking. Principle of work: when the user pulls the handle, the damping element is activated, which absorbs the starting loads. Features: virtually maintenance-free, the device is protected from dust. The Husqvarna brand has also developed its technology for easier starting saws. Principle of work: the same. Features: reduces the effort required to start the saw by 40%.
Engine 2-mix (Stihl) and X-torq (Husqvarna)
Stihl’s patented design is a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and economic two-stroke engine compared to conventional ones. It maintains high torque at any speed.
- Principle of work: the combustion chamber is blown, unlike conventional engines, not with a fuel mixture, but with clean air. As a result of such refinement – more fuel mixture burns.
- Features: 20% less fuel consumption while maintaining high power; as a result – the formation of exhausts is reduced.
Two-stroke Husqvarna engines with this technology are also efficient and economical. It has the same work principle.
- Features: reduces fuel consumption, reduces exhaust emissions by 2.5 times. The same torque at low and high speeds reduced vibration.
Stihl Chainsaws are made with a polymer body. By and large, there are no drawbacks to this material – it is durable, lightweight, and ductile. The Husqvarna metal case has its advantages – strength and reliability, but the tool weighs more than similar Stihl models.
Country of manufacture
Our customers often pay attention to the state of manufacture of the chainsaw. Indeed, the same manufacturer can produce tools in China, Brazil, Germany, and any other country in the world. It is believed that the German assembly will not fail, and, say, the Chinese often raises questions. We hasten to reassure you: the place of manufacture does not matter. Each production is controlled equally regardless of the country, so you can safely take the tool, not paying attention to the location of the plant.
Rubber gaskets are used in Stihl household class chainsaws, farm-class models are equipped with metal springs – a more reliable shock absorber. Husqvarna generally installs springs on all saws. Quick chain tensioning system and keyless blade/chain replacement is simple. It is present in both brands; it allows you to service the saw without an additional tool – you need to loosen the keyless system.
Air filtration system
As a filtering device in the Stihl saws, a conventional plate made of felt fabric is used. It receives airflow from the environment through openings in the form of a rectangle (they are made directly in the cylinder cover). For the equipment to work flawlessly for many years, it is necessary to clean the air filter with a frequency of 1-2 hours during its operation.
Husqvarna chainsaws have a two-stage air filtration system. The essence of its functioning is to suck in an impeller of air masses with dust and sawdust and further redirect the mudflow through a spiral channel to the upper part of the cylinder. Thanks to the action of centrifugal particles, all the debris flies off to the sides and already purified air breaks into the filter. Such a system provides a long cycle of operation without forced stops for filter maintenance.
The chainsaw air filters of both manufacturers are also structurally different. The Stihl filter is a molded plate made of synthetic felt. At the edges, it is crimped by the cylinder cover. Devices are made in the form of a plastic case with felt gaps through which air flows. A tight fit on a particular protrusion is maintained throughout the entire period of operation of the filter device, regardless of the degree of wear of the engine cover.
Chainsaws of both manufacturers are high-quality tools; in this regard, they are equal to each other. Both designs are assembled from reliable components using wear-resistant materials. The company Stihl prefers the classic case design, which is characterized by restraint. And Husqvarna experts are continually replenishing the range of models in a modern design. In terms of noise, Stihl is inferior to Husqvarna. In any case, the choice remains with the consumer, because only by picking up the tool, you begin to understand how convenient it will be in work.
